The Unusual Story Of Pandora

That is the essence of science: ask an impertinent question, and you are on the way to the pertinent answer.

It is a Greek myth. Long time age, there was no fire on earth. Human beings ate raw food, and they suffered from the cold, living in the darkness. Deva Prometheus and his younger brother Epmetheus had mercy on mankind. They stolen tinder from the sun god Apollo regardless of Zeus's ban and gave it to humanity. After that humans learned how to to use fire. Since then, the earth had warm, they live in harmony environmentand lived very happily. Zeus learned of this, was very angry and decided to bring the catastrophe to human.

He ordered his son Hephaestus, god of fire, to make a woman with dirt and named Pandora, which meaned "those who have been granted all the advantages." Each God had given her something to make her perfect. Aphrodite gave her beauty, Hermes persuasive ability, Apollo musical talent. Zeus gave Pandora a sealed box,which was filled with the scourge, disasters and plagues,telling her to send to man married to her. Zeus took the beauty to the earth. On seeing the gorgeous lady, all the people were very surprised and desired to her, for they had never seen such a beautiful woman before.

Pandora began to seek for Later Comer, Epimetheus, younger brother of Prometheus immediately. Epimetheus was honest and kind.Prometheus convinced that Zeus was malicious to human, and warned his brother not to accept any gift of Zeus. But he did not listen to advice, and married the beautiful Pandora. Pandora held her gift in her hands, which was a big sealed box. She had just walked near to Epimetheus when out of curiosity opened the lid.

Epmetheus has not yet saw what gift was in the box, a stream of black smoke which caused scourge to human flying off the box swiftly. The black smoke is full of disease, madness, disaster, evil, jealousy, adultery, theft, greed and other kinds of scourges, these scourges rapidly scattered on the earth. The Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, in order to save the destiny of mankind quietly put a beautiful thing on the bottom of the box, which was "hope". But before 'hope'flew out of the box, Pandora shutput the box . Therefore, the earth is full of a variety of disasters.

And it is said that due to Pandora's curiousity to the things existed in the box, she opened the box again! Some body says: what flew out from the box are all disasters, they scattered over the world, fortunately, hope is still in our hands and it keeps us can endure the unfortunate life. Other people said: all the happiness came out of the box, they fled to the earth everywhere prematurely, remained in our hands the "hope" was only an empty phantom. In fact, the box represents disaster and evil, and it is always used as a metaphor of the cause of disaster and misfortune.
